Happy New Year once again! As we step into 2025, it’s time to take a fresh look at how you are building your coaching business. But instead of the usual “what you should do” list, let’s talk about what you shouldn’t do if you want to create success this year.
These mistakes are all too common among coaches, and avoiding them could be the difference between thriving and just surviving in 2025.
- Don’t Try to Be Famous on Social Media
Social media is an incredible tool, but using it as your main strategy to build your business is a recipe for frustration. Standing out in such a noisy marketplace requires relentless effort. You’re competing with an avalanche of content, and to stay visible, you’d need to produce consistently high-quality posts every day. Most coaches find this approach unsustainable. Instead, focus on integrating social media as part of a larger, balanced marketing plan. By doing so, you’ll save time, reduce stress, and still achieve impactful visibility.
- Don’t Jump Straight Into Facebook Ads
Facebook ads can generate fantastic results, but only if you’re prepared. Running ads without a solid system is like throwing money into the wind. First, you need a proven methodology, a working funnel, and a deep understanding of your target audience. Without these, Facebook ads become an expensive gamble that leaves you frustrated and financially strained. Build your foundation first, then invest in ads when you’re ready to scale.
- Don’t Overspend on Expensive Tools
Coaches often fall victim to shiny object syndrome, believing the latest software or platform will revolutionize their business. While tools are necessary, they don’t have to break the bank. Many high-priced tools have features you’ll never use, and buying them prematurely can strain your budget. Focus on affordable, functional options that meet your current needs. Remember, success isn’t about the tools you use; it’s about how effectively you use them.
- Don’t Arbitrarily Raise Your Prices
Yes, your services are valuable, but pricing decisions should be strategic, not impulsive. Raising your prices based on hype or ego can alienate potential clients. Instead, evaluate the outcomes you provide, study your market, and gradually adjust pricing when it makes sense. A well-thought-out pricing strategy builds trust and credibility with your audience.
- Don’t Lower Your Prices to Attract Buyers
When sales are slow, it’s tempting to lower your prices, thinking it will attract more clients. But price isn’t always the issue. Often, the problem lies in your messaging, positioning, or offer itself. Slashing prices can damage your brand’s perceived value and attract the wrong audience. Focus on refining your offer and targeting the right clients instead.
